The Lodge

The sweat lodge is one of the oldest ceremonial spaces on earth — a place of heat, darkness, prayer, and direct encounter with the self.

Enter the Lodge

A healing journey conducted under the guidance of COSOS ministers, held outdoors in a domed enclosure using sacred fire, water, and traditional plant medicines.

All are welcome. Ceremonies are traditionally held on the first Saturday following a new moon, with additional lodge dates offered throughout the month.

In keeping with our mission to support physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, COSOS has offered sweat lodge ceremonies since the founding of the church. Many people living in urban and suburban areas do not have regular access to ceremonial spaces or prefer to attend closer to home. We are honored to hold this space and are committed to having ministers who are respectful, prepared, and inclusive in their facilitation. Teachings and protocols vary — we encourage you to reach out directly with any questions before attending.

Coming to the Lodge

What to Bring and Wear

Men wear natural fiber shorts. Women wear a long dress or long skirt with a modest top. Bring a towel. Do not wear metal of any kind, including underwire — it heats during the ceremony.

There is always a small communal meal following the lodge. COSOS provides items for ceremonial use. Participants are welcome, though not required, to bring personal items or a small gift for the officiating minister in recognition of their service.

We also ask attendees to consider contributing to lodge operations — wood, stones, and supplies are ongoing needs. Donations toward these costs are always appreciated.
